Social Media Etiquette Project

Image
Social Media Etiquette is the ability for someone to creating a positive and Respectful presence on any type of platform they are using (ex: Tik Tok, Instagram, etc). It involves being mindful of your audience and environment which ensures you aren't offending anyone. Lastly it includes verifying any type of information to make sure it is accurate while also making sure the creator balances their private and public life that helps build trust and credibility. In 2018 H&M received widespread backlash due an advertisement of a young black boy to model a hoodie with the phrase “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”. Monkey has historically been used as a racial slur towards African Americans making the ad racially insensitive. The problem could have been avoided by setting up a cultural review team to check the slogan's appropriateness. A stricter review process, informed by diverse perspectives, would ensure that advertisements are appropriate, inclusive, and respectful to al...

Smackdown: Good vs Bad Website

Image
For this Smackdown, I will be explaining the reason why Soundcloud is the good app compared to Musi (which is the bad website). While both apps are for streaming music Soundcloud straightforward design and simplicity for users makes it a better website then Musi.  To start off Soundcloud is mobile friendly as it is available on all different types of platforms s and devices while Musi was only available on Apple devices. However, it was removed off the Appstore around 2024 so only those who had the app can continue to use the app. This largely limits the user pool as on the people who have the app which are Apple users can use the app compared to Soundcloud; which is available on any search engine and app store. Another reason Soundcloud is the better website is because of the simplicity in the app. In Musi you have to be very specific in what you search or else you will see everything related to your search. This means if you were to search an artist every video related to th...

Technology Blog 4: Learning to Learn

Image
In Chapter 3, the author emphasizes the idea of being a people (specifically teachers) being lifelong learners. The personal learning networks help people become lifelong learners as it provides a space of information that helps with personal and professional growth all around the world. While the networks are helpful it is important, the rule of the 3 C's must be followed for true success in learning. One C is community which is the ability to bond between the group, allowing people to trust each other and feel comfortable sharing. The next C is collaboration; this allows the group to work together smoothly and includes everyone's diverse backgrounds. The last C is communication, which allows people to actually speak and share their different ideas. All 3 of these tools allows the group to grow which ensuring people are actually learning different things in order to grow. The author also emphases how these tactics leads to the learners becoming active learners instead of passi...

10/23 Web Tool Smackdown #2

My Web Tool focus was Blooket.com. I found out about this website in high school when teachers used it as review, but it was a fun competitive game that helped us (my classmates) review key ideas. Blooket.com is essentially a free website that can help people create and review study sets either by themselves or as a group. Through this website people can either create specific sets designed for their learning while also making studying a little more bit more entertaining if they need a new way of looking at something.  I plan on using Blooket in my future educational career specifically for studying. With Blooket features like homework mode (a section where you can assign a set to be done later and share around) will allow people repeated practice of certain sets in order to keep track of their accuracy. Also, with the different types of games I use different types of study formats allowing my attention to refresh, when needed. In Blooket I can use it for my different classes from ...

Technology Blog #3: Using Tools to Support Connected Learning and the connection to Psychology

Image
In chapter 5, goes more into detail about how to use tools to create the personal learning networks. The chapter begins to explain how what to look for on social media like hashtags for best growth. By providing these small steps the author is able to help people become used to the technical side of the personal learning networks so they will not want to give up. These tools will also help users create a more collaborative network that is built around themselves.  One of the most important tools explained was the RSS (Really Simple Syndication). This is where all updates from different websites can be in one place. This is especially helpful with efficiently since they will not have to look through different websites for new information. Another tool explained is the use of hashtags. In the chapter hashtags help users find what they need by looking up the specific tag leading to different conversations around the topic. This will also allow users to specify what tags their n...

Smackdown: Google Spreadsheets

Google Spreadsheets is a website from Google Suite that helps organization and record keeping. Spreadsheets are used for a range of purposes from timesheets to event planning to do list. The website allows for the user to create an organized place where they can keep data, dates, notes, assignments and extra. For me I use spreadsheets to keep track of my assignments (long term and short term) by keeping tables for the different classes and the important dates and/or notes. I also used them to keep track of event planning and the events itself by doing things like keeping the attendance.  In my future career in mental health, specifically as a therapist, I can use sheets by continuing to keep track of records. For example, if I do private practice and want to focus on only 5 to 10 patients then I can keep mini sheets for them all in one big sheet. I can also keep the main sheet as the organizer between dates and appointments. This will be extremely helpful since I can keep the files...
